Weather status & forecast updates
2014/05/28 Final check shows 75% positive conditions, weather is go!
After revising the forecasts one last time it's fairly clear that the weather won't be posing any trouble to our launch this weekend! Aside from cloud cover on Sunday and the presence of a solid cover forecasted Monday - awfully close to our weekend - there's nothing that is currently forcing cancellation outright and thus the weather check is go, whether we observe limiting conditions or not!
See you this weekend assuming the other aspects of the event are worked out (NOTAM, Authorizations, etc... Confirmation normally comes Thursday night)
2014/05/25 Take two remains at a positive 65%
While some forecasts indicate chance of rain at some point in the weekend, overall the odds for this appear very low, with precipitations more likely rolling in on Friday instead. While the conditions don't look as favorable as preliminary forecasts showed, they are still encouraging enough.
The wind forecasts show a very good outlook with the speeds dipping under 10km/h at some points in the weekend.
Until we can have clearer, more stable picture of the precipitations, considering all other factors, the weather status stands at a favorable but safe 65% for our second attempt at this launch weekend.
2014/05/20 Take two stands at 80%
It looks like the weather played tricks on us for our first take, reverting to a lot of sunshine at the last minute; we're hoping the forecast holds up a more honest picture of the upcoming weather for our second attempt at RocketFest!
With tendencies showing winds at around 15km/h for the period covering our second attempt, temperatures around 20C and little to no odds of precipitation, we can anticipate about 80% favorable odds for a launch to take place on May 31 and June 1st!
PS: Appearances can be deceiving... while the weather improved for our first attempt's weekend, the winds were so high reaching well above 30km/h, launches would have had to be halted several times.
Check back next week for more up to date reports!
2014/05/15 Cancellation due to bad weather
It's official... we've decided it would be a better idea to use our backup date for this launch on May 31 and June 1st. The original weekend has been showing as low as 35% favorable conditions for a launch.
It was simply too tedious to try to get good conditions on the field (ie: no mud), avoid the rain and get enough time for a satisfying amount of rocket launches. A huge forecasted rainfall Saturday really made things quasi-impossible for us.
We now look to the 31-1 weekend for our launch, and will begin posting weather updates as of next week! Stay tuned!
2014/05/11 First weather update
The weekend of May 17 and 18 is getting tricky to forecast. While only some are calling for somewhat favorable weekend, most forecasts indicate a chance of precipiation, shifting from Saturday to Sunday, in some cases also falling hard on Friday.
With all the information put together and averaged out, favorable conditions for the coming weekend only fall at 50%. The current likely scenario is a one-day window for launch with the likeliness for precipitation on the other day.
The one criteria we wouldn't have to worry about is wind, with speeds ranging between 10 and 15km/h all weekend long. The termperatures would not be as hot as the last two Rocket Fests, only rising to about 16 to 18 degrees Celcius.
Considering all of the above, our current conditions stand at 50% due to cloud cover and likeliness of precipitation. The forecast has been shifting arounds a lot, so check back for more updates during the week. The go or no-go will be issued Thursday night.

The first step is to reach autoroute 20 on the south shore of Montreal. For local residents, this is pretty easy. If you don't know how, just check a Quebec map!
Take autoroute 20 East towards Drummonville. Take Exit 175 and take the 143 north.
On the 143 (north), go through the village of St-Bonaventure (there are two consecutive right angle turns in the village itself).
- Turn right on the "2e Rang"
- Roll on the "2e Rang" for 0.8km
- Turn Left on the "10e Rang"
- Roll 4.4km on the "10e Rang"
The launch site is on your left (western side of the road - a dirt road to be exact). Look for a sign that shows "TRIPOLI-QUEBEC FUSEES" including orange cones and follow the instructions on the placcard.
If you see an airplane hangar, you're too far. Turn back and roll for about 200 meters.
