Weather status & forecast updates
2012/07/18 *UPDATE* Aside for a tiny risk of a few drops on Sunday the weather poses no concern and remains GREEN for launch.
2012/07/15 - So Far, So "Green"!
So it turns out these forecasts now have improved just enough to rise the odds of favorable conditions to 70%, thus reinforcing the "Green" status we've been posting here for the past week, with conditions previously holding at 65%.
First off it appears that most risk of precipitation is now gone. Even Windfinder, the forecast we tend to keep a close eye on as events approach, seem to give a clean, dry weekend for the 21-22! Of course this can shift around at any time, but with trends backing a steady-to-improving forecast, odds are good precipitation will cause little to no concern for the weekend. Furthermore the overcast that was earlier forecasted seems to now have been downgraded to somewhat of a call for scattered clouds.
Secondly, the wind data is looking good - it is not perfect, but it's good to go for a launch weekend. Saturday seems to show little to no wind or gusts, with numbers indicating a 5km/h all-day average with gusts around 10km/h. Sunday, however, is a different beast altogether. The winds will reach around 15km/h possibly gusting to 30km/h. This should allow operators to launch their rockets in a far more challenging environment, getting the opportunity to test their aircraft's performance in rougher flights!
Bottom line at this point the forecasts are mostly converging toward a solid 70% odds we'll have good conditions for launch this upcoming weekend.
If there are any major changes to announce - positive or negative - they will be posted here as the week unfolds. The official GO/No-GO will be given Wednesday night.
